Professor Linda K. Medlin is currently a Research Fellow at the MBA, holds an honorary professorship at Aberystwyth University, and is CEO Of Algae Save the World, Consulting. Worked previously as Head of Research at Microbia Environnement, France, at the Observatoire Oceanologique of UPMC, France and at the AWI, Germany. Received Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in 1983 in marine botany. Expert in marine phytoplankton evolution/phylogenetics. Published 287 papers, 37 books chapters, two edited books and two special issues, one manual for microarray analysis, 99 invited lectures, of which four are keynote speakers and four are plenary speakers. Awarded 52 research grants of which 19 are EU. 3X winner of the Tyge Christensen award for best paper in Phycologia and 1X winner of the Provasoli award for best paper in Journal of Phycology. Elected foreign member of Norwegian Academy of Science for her pioneering work in phytoplankton phylogenetics. Her 1988 benchmark publication for first PCR primers for 18S gene opened the door for rRNA genes as biodiversity genes. 2022 recipient of the Yasumoto Lifetime Achievement Award given by the International Society for the study of Harmful Algae for her lifetime work on developing phylochips/microarrays/biosensors for early warning systems for toxic algae and freshwater pathogens and for analyzing marine biodiversity. Inventor on three patents for the detection of toxic algae.
Show MoreProf. Bin Ding received his B.S. from Northeast Normal University, China, in 1998 and his M.S. from Chonbuk National University, South Korea, in 2003. He subsequently earned his Ph.D. degree at Keio University, Japan, in 2005, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Davis, USA. Currently, Prof. Ding serves as the Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology at Donghua University. He has been recognized as Distinguished Young Scientist by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, "Changjiang Scholar" by the Chinese Ministry of Education, and Leading Talent in the National "Ten Thousands Plan". Prof. Ding has been named a Highly Cited Chinese Researcher by Elsevier for five consecutive years and is among the World's Top 2% Scientists. Since 2000, Prof. Ding has made significant contributions to the controllable fabrication, functionalization, and industrial application of fibrous materials, which have found extensive use in thermal insulation, warmth retention, filtration, waterproof and breathable membranes, and energy electronics. His research has led to the establishment of three companies that commercialize technologies developed in his laboratory. Prof. Ding has authored and co-authored over 500 peer-reviewed SCI papers published in prestigious journals such as Nat. Commun., Sci. Adv., Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. etc., achieving an H-index of 113. Additionally, he has edited two Chinese books and two English books, co-edited 13 book chapters, and holds over 200 approved innovation patents. Prof. Ding has undertaken more than 40 research projects funded by various organizations, including the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and the industrial community. In recognition of his outstanding work, he has received numerous prestigious honors, such as the Distinguished Achievement Award from The Fiber Society (USA), the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in Shanghai, and the Second Prize for Natural Science from the Ministry of Education, etc.
